easiest way to spin torque converter?

Hey everyone, I'll be dropping the pan this weekend to change filter and fluid in my 4R70W. I've never drained the torque converter before, but I'm doing it this time for peace of mind. I know where the plug is and everything, but what is the easiest way to get the torque converter to spin so that the plug will come around? Thanks.

Cool

HI!... Just use a pry bar or large flat head screwdriver and push on the flexplate teeth untill it lines up with the access hole in the bottom of the bell housing. Very little effort is needed to turn it.

Cool

HI!... It will go either way. Your not just spinning the TQ converter. You'll be spinning the crankshaft as well. You will feel the compression as you turn it. If you will be having another person helping you then you can put a large johnson bar/socket on the crank pulley bolt and he can turn it while your under the truck looking for the drain plug to line up where you need it.

thanks for the advice. is it still safe to use Mercon V tranny fluid in the 4R70W? I read on another post something about Ford not licensing Mercon fluid anymore or sometime in the near future.

I use a screwdriver and jump the terminals on the starter motor to bump the engine around.

Mercon V fluid should be fine. Many AT fluids now are rated for multiple applications anyway, similar to multi-viscosity oil.

A long ratchet/breaker bar on the crank pulley is the easiest way. If you don't have a breaker bar, find an old steel mop or broom, and cut the handle off. They're always hollow and and surprisingly strong. Slip the 3-4' handle over a regular socket and you have a mega-breaker bar.
