i have a 1992 ford f150 with a 351w engine and a 4speed auto with OD tranny.im not sure of the actual transmission. its got 112K miles on truck. when i start it up engine cold or hot RPMs rev high then comes down. when i shift into reverse it kicks and when shifting into 3rd gear it revs high and i let off the gas and then kicks hard. its only reverse and 3rd gear. i dont know what it is. could the tranny need rebuilt? please help

 

Thrid and reverse both use the direct clutch. It sounds like the direct clutch is burnt up. Time to take it out and rebuild/replace.

By the way it's an E4OD.

 

I know nothing about transmissions do i rebuild the entire tranny or just the clutch
