Did 98 F-150s Come With Standard Auto Transmission Oil Cooler?

Hello.

I have a 98 F-150 4x4 super Cab XLT with the 4.6 V8. I'm thinking of getting into a 21-23 foot RV ( about 5000 pounds), and was wondering if anyone knows if the 1998 F-150s came with a standard auto transmission oil cooler. I took a peak and found what looks like a power steering oil cooler, but I can't tell if there is a tranny oil cooler or not. There is an aparatus in front of the radiator that could be a tranny oil cooler, but it may be the A/C coil instead.

Any tips in regards to towing with the 4.6Ltr?

Thank you

hm my 97 has one in front of the rad i think.

tips with towing that much weight with the non pi 4.6

plan on going slow, dont expect to use OD at all.

you may be interested in making sure you have 3.73's in the rear or 4.10's if you feel comfortable with a deeper ratio.

I'm pretty sure if you have the tranny cooler you should have two little coils in front of the radiator, one's for the tranny and I don't know what the other does, a good thing to do is call ford customer service and request a build sheet if you bought the truck used. Yes if you're paranoid they do want your info, but it's free and lets you know what equip was origionally on your truck. hope this helps

It's going to struggle with that kind of weight behind it , I wouldn't suggest it stock. If you attempt to pull it for say a short distance maybe , make double sure the OD is off , you'll F it up quick in OD.

In 98 you had to order the tow package if you wanted it . A maxed out tow package gave you a dual core rad, E4OD trans - cooler, w/3.55 gearing, also w/5.4L engine. Check your door, see what your rated for..
When I purchased mine in 98 I was moving trailers for dad once in awhile that were 6500 lbs. - I wasn't interested in a diesel back then, the 5.4L at the time was highly rated for the task. My 4x4 didn't sweat it , but man , you sure can feel that weight behind yuh. I never use OD , not even in the diesels - That's really bad for them.

I wouldn't pull that weight in your truck except maybe to move the trailer a short distance if that..

To answer your title question - Yes, all Ford truck gas engines come w/oils coolers - standard. You may add an auxiliary cooler or deeper pan to increase cooling if needed..

Heres my 98 setup -

Ditto. All the transmissions include a oil to water cooler built into the radiator. Vehicles with the super-cooling package (included with the trailer towing package, heavy duty payload package, or by itself as a package) gave you the dual-core radiator until '01 and the auxiliary transmission cooler. You can add the OEM cooler with the brackets, or add an aftermarket one pretty easily by tapping into the return line from the radiator to the transmission.

2000 ford F-150 4.6L Windsor
Tow Package with 3:55 rear end
Hypertech 93 ocatan tuning
k&n filter
151k running strong

5000lbs is a lot and you can feel it, but the truck pulls fine at 60 to 65 miles per hour. You won't go any faster and definatley dont be in a hurry.

I just emailed them off the Ford website, it is pretty cool. I have both letters framed on my wall, my 1985 Ranger (the somehow goofed and said it has active seatbelts and airbags instead of the weight rating though) and my 2002 F-150, as far as I can tell they didn't goof it up.

That # works.
Phone Q shortcut: 1, 4, 2 and ask for a build sheet.

That's prolly your PS cooler .. The upgraded trans coolers I've seen are mounted towards the center of the Raiator and are quite a bit larger than the earlier models..
