Overdrive question

After driving manual transmission all my life, what should I drive my truck with. Overdrive on or off??? I am not all that clear on it. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I just want some clarity on what overdrive is. Thanks for any help.

"Drive" is a 1:1 ratio from the engine to the driveshaft. "Overdrive" technically just means the driveshaft is turning FASTER than the engine.

The default every time you turn the key on is OD ON, so that should be a big clue - if OFF was better, it would have been programmed to default OFF. The owner's manual describes why/when to turn OD off.

Just leave it on, unless your driving around town and it seems to be shifting back and forth. You should also turn it off when towing a trailer.

At least thats what the owners manual recommends.
