Stuck trying to remove my transmission

I'm trying to remove my transmission so I can replace a leaky slave cylinder for the clutch. It's a 2003 2wd. I've been using a Haynes manual, and have everything undone and the tranny back a couple of inches, but there does not seem to be enough clearance. The case protrudes through the hole in the floor where the stick goes through (I did remove the stick). I tried lowering the engine as far as it will go, but It still wont clear the hole in the floor, What do I do now??????? Help!!!!

HI!... I know on JMC's truck he had to remove the piece where the shifter goes into from the top of the tranny. Not just unbolt the stick. You will need some silicone to re-seal it later.

Thanks Neal for the quick reply. They left that part out of the book. I'll give it a shot.

Thats funny, I just did this same slave cylinder replacement on a 2002 F-150 last week for my buddy! I agree is a real pain getting that 5 speed out. We found that once we removed the exhaust from the manifolds to just in front of the muffler helped. The thing that helped the most was jacking up the engine. We jacked up the engine about 3-5 inches, and surprisingly this gave us the clearance to clear the shifter and remove the tranny. Dont worry, install is ALOT easier. Hope this helps.

I just had to get a clutch job done and the guy that did it told me he had to rotate the tranny 90 degrees to get it in and out.

Left, or right? :D

I am doing the same thing to the SAME truck. I have a 2002 5 speed and I am STUCK with the damn shifter. I removed EVERYTHING from it, even the cap with those star screws and I still am getting it stuck on the floor pan. I have been fooling with if for awhile now and it's driving me a little crazy. I read a couple posts before that he jacked up the engine and I will probably try that. Anyone else have any pointers?? Thanks!

There are some helpful tips in this thread.

I FINALLY got my tranny out thanks to this thread.

1. Turning it 90 degrees AWAY from the starter will help you get it out.

2. Jacking up the FRONT of your engine will help as well.

I used these two tips and she came out. I was able to replace my slave cylinder with no problem and now it is back together. Thank God!
