transmission problem I think
 
my F150 1997 auto 2wheel drive will engage into drive but only after reving the engine quit a bit same thing for reverse ( installed a body lift dont know if that extender messed up the shifting

Hey, I ain't no expert, just spend a lot of time reading.

I don't see how a body lift would mess up a '97, but it started right after you did the lift?

yeah just about but I mibht have put I on wrong Im pretty sure I didnt

I used to only happen when going into 1ST gear or drive but now its been happening when going like 50 mph the engine will rev up with no acceleration

Sounds like its time for a rebuild! I just had the same problem. When I pulled my tranny apart I found the forward clutches were "welded" together and the piston seal was cut in 3 places! It looks like it was pinched during initial assembly and just progressively got worse overtime.

Try removing your trans filter and cutting it open, you'll probably find pieces of friction material from the clutches.
