2006 4x4 problems
 

I have a 2006 lariat with a 6" lift and 35's. yesterday i tried putting it into 4x4 and nothing happened. i have checked all the fuses and they are all fine. i have an edge evolution on it so i returned it to stock and still nothing. Has anyone heard of this happening before?

did you check all the connections ont the transfer case? sometimes they can come loose.

yes. i have checked the fuses in the cab and under the hood. none off them are blown. All of the connections going to the transfer case are in.

I have the same problem intermittantly on my 2005. No fuse or connetion issues that I can find but about 1/2 the time, no 4wd! Service scheduled for this week. I'll let you know what they say. Today was the first snow of the season, and I was let down again.

Try using the sequence for putting your truck in 4WD low. In park, foot firmly on the brake, switch to 4wd low. I did this in despiration (icy snowy weather) and it went into 4wd high. Now it works properly. Don't know what the glitch is, and still can't get 4 low.

That's because you're doing it wrong. All Ford Shift on the Fly transfer cases since the mid-80s have required you to be stopped, in neutral, with your foot on the brakes to engage 4 low.

As for the original problem, these kinds of problems become more and more difficult to troubleshoot as the systems get more heavily integrated. Without being able to see the GEM inputs and outputs, it's difficult to know where the breakdown in communication is between the switch, the GEM (or BSM) and the transfer case. As much as I hate to say it, on these trucks, troubleshooting is almost easier, faster, and cheaper if done while hooked to an NGS tester at the dealership.

06 f150 left in 4x4 and shut truck off??
 

i have an 06 f150 4x4 xlt supercab, and i left the 4x4 high in after i shut it off and went into work. I got off at 9pm and went home and put it back in 2wd, and it ran fine. this won't affect it if I don't do it again will it????

no it shouldnt, i do it to my truck all the time
it might actually be better on the transfer case to leave it in fourwheel drive than disengaging it & reengaging it later, moving more parts around (& if you have electric) wearing the shift motors out.
