2001 O/D Flashing- OBD11 Code PO 712 -HELP!
2001 F-150 O/D light flashing. Checked it with 2005 Snap On Graphing Scanner- [with no trouble shooter updates] Code reads PO 712...........
Scanner translates "Trans-Coolant temp sensor out of range". Need help. What Is this problem? Is it simply the sensor? IF So- would this sensor be internal or external? Or is there something else that I need to be checking for? This just started today. Shifting fine, just O/D light flashing. Fluid looks great. Any help is appreciated! |
sounds like a bad sensor to me. don't know whether its internal or external though, sorry.

2001 O/D Flashing- OBD11 Code PO 712 -HELP!
Thanks. I am not sure either, but if ANYBODY would do something stupid, like putting it on the INSIDE, it would be Ford...........
|
Yea only Ford would do that heh!
Where do you think the fluid temp would be measured by the sensor if not in where the fluid is? |
Yes, it's inside the pan.
Before changing it, how warm was the trans when you ran the test? I believe that code means the trans was either too cold or too hot when the test was run. |
I would suspect a wiring connection or harness fault first.
For the sensor to cause this code would require it to short cicuit which is an extraordinarily rare occurance for a thermistor. Use that fancy Snap-on to monitor the TFT_PID and see what it's actually reading during operation. Of course (as mentioned), the Transmission Fluid Temperature sensor is in the fluid inside the pan.
