93 AOD reverse won't work...

Well, did a fluid change, filter, tried tranny-x stuff. Reverse will work sometimes, usually when cold, and it will be jerky and slippy. But 90 percent of the time, no reverse. Everything else works fine...

I am looking into a used one, but I'd like to know if there was some little trick I could do instead of rebuilding or replacing... Any ideas?

Anyone? Maybe a mallet and moving the selector back and forth?

I'll probably end up buying a reman... But, I'd like to use my truck in the meantime.

You're probably right.

Reverse is always mechanical/hydraulic, meaning that if the transmission was electronically dead, you'll always have at least one forward gear range and reverse. If you don't have reverse, something's mechanically failed inside the transmission. No amount of cures in a can or hammering and beating will fix it. Sorry.

Reverse going first is rare for a gAyOD, prolly broke the reverse drum. Does
2nd gear work?

Hold up a minnit...

I just noticed, I may have the AODE, which would be the 4R70W, right? What's that little sensor thing right above the gear lever actuator...?

Sorry man I had ya mixed up with the guy that has the rare 93 AOD. The 4R70w didn't come in the trucks till '94 when it replaced the AOD.

Do you have the overdrive cancel button? If so that's the E4OD. Total different animal and 2000 to rebuild.

No, it's the AODE. 14 bolt pan, the E4OD is 20 bolt.

adrianspeeder Sep 17, 2006 05:51 PM

Really? Have only heard rumors of 93 vans with that combo. You have the OD cancel button?

No, mine is the 14 bolt pan... Maybe it is the AOD. I don't know. I am not near the truck right now, so I can't really check for the trans code... No OD cancel or anything.

Yep, definitely regular ol' AOD. Well, time to pony up for a new one...

adrianspeeder Sep 17, 2006 06:02 PM

Oh ok. Plane ole non electronic AOD then. My first post reapplies.

Waitaminnit... Could this be the TV adjustment being out of whack?
