1993 F150 AOD won't shift past second

I have a high mileage F150 that is having problems going into reverse when hot. I thought it might be the fluid and filter, so I changed them, but that did not fix the problem, and now it won't shift past second gear when accelerating. I checked for sensors and the only one I found on the transmission was on the drivers side and seemed to be hooked up ok.
Any ideas?

Check the cable to make sure it is operating at this point I would think you have fried the direct clutches and the trans will need to be rebuilt.

Howdy and welcome!

Do you actually have the AOD? I have only seen personally one 92 or 93 AOD truck. Does the dispay have PRN(D)D1? The E4OD tranny has a display of PRN(D)21 and an overdrive lockout button.

It matters in what could be the problem.

It has PRN(D)D1, there is no override button, and the sticker on the inside of the door says transmission type T. Is AOD a rare thing?

You are only the second person posting online ever with a 92-93 AOD truck. And that is with the hours of research I've done to put together the tranny info page sticky at the top of the forum.

99.9% of halftons in 92-93 have the E4OD.

Anyway, the AOD is an "old school" non electronic tranny. It uses a TV cable to the throttle body to control the shifts. This could be your problem if it is out of adjustment (tricky thing to do), or perhaps this light duty trans is DOA.

In f-150's aod's are common with 5.0 engines. The 300 6cyl either had the c6 or E4. The 351's were mostly E4.

85 to 90ish yes. It really dropped off with the intro of the E4OD in 89, 'till being replaced in '94 with the 4R70w
