Tranny

Learned yesterday that on the 95 F150 302 2WD the door sticker tells what trannny you have. For this year, "U" is the 4R70w and "E" is the E4OD.

That is also correct. That was also addressed in this thread 10 years ago.

People keep posting, look at the vin tag, if it's U is a 4r70w. That's great, but not all 4r70w's are interchangeable, so they are not the "same". These are the different 4r70w's for 2003. Nobody ever says what's the difference, or if they are interchangeable. Are all the 4x2 4r70w's interchangeable, and are all the 4x4 4r70w's interchangeable? What's the difference between the 2 different numbers? Nobody knows this stuff. Here's the different trans for 03 4r70w...

AT, 8-280 (4.6L), (4R70W), 4x2
AT, 8-280 (4.6L), (4R70W), 4x4
AT, 6-255 (4.2L), (4R70W), 4x2 (ID 1L3P-DA)
AT, 6-255 (4.2L), (4R70W), 4x4 (ID 1L3P-EA)
AT, 8-330 (5.4L), 4R70W (standard load), 4x2, ID 1L3P-LA
AT, 8-330 (5.4L), 4R70W (standard load), 4x2, ID 2L1P-EA
AT, 8-330 (5.4L), 4R70W (standard load), 4x4, ID 1L3P-JA
AT, 8-330 (5.4L), 4R70W (standard load), 4x4, ID 2L1P-FA

There are 2 different bellhousing bolt patterns for the 4R70W - the Windsor (302 and V6) and the Modular (4.6, 5.4). Those are not interchangeable.

I have a 1998 5.4 lariat that was completely rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, im not sure if it originally had 4r100 or if the owner upgraded it, but the new door card says "E" and the pan matches the 4r100 bolt pattern, the old man i bought it from was telling me he got it from the dealer as a "HD package". its not a lightning but everything points to a fr100, is there any other way of determining tranny type?

Found out it could be the older version of the 4R100, "the e40d" ford changed the name after they made a few modifications to it

My 97 F150 had the E4OD in it. It was just a regular F150 with the 5.4, 5 lug hubs and #6250 GVWR.

If you have 7 lug hubs, you have the #7700 GVWR F150, but in 99-03, it could have had the 4R70 trans in it.. And even a 4.6 in some of them!

I know this is an old thread but I'm hoping for some help. I have a 1997 F150 with the 4R70W transmission but I need to know the ID number and the tag is completely unreadable. What is the difference between the ID F65P-CA and the ID F75P-KA?
