Random OD Flashing

It all started last night, earlier in the day it was fine. Anyway the tranny shifts just like normal but the OD Light is flashing randomly not consistantly. Plus it only does it when I push the button to lockout OD. Is this a wiring issue or is it tranny related?

You have a 92? Usually this indicates there is a code for a warning. It doesn't necessarily mean your o/d is funked. For an example, my dad's airbag light flashed in sequences, turned out to be a bad EGR, go figure. Look for a flashing pattern, but definetely have a computer read the code or a scan tool.

Pull your codes. It only takes a paperclip.

It is impossible for an EGR fault to cause an AIRBAG light...

wait a minute...

You say the light only flashes "randomly" when you've pressed the O/D cancel switch?

Does the transmission shift out of OD and properly shift and run other than the flickering light on the end of the lever?

If so, I'd say it's just a simple case of either damaged wiring or a loose connection inside the selector shaft or switch assy.

OTOH, if the light is flashing under otherwise normal driving conditions, then pull your codes.

Seriously, my dad's 94 did something like this only the airbag light was flashing in sequences like 3 then 2 then 3 again. He got something like EGR fault, I thaught it was weird that that happened, I'm just saying it's probably letting you know somethings **** better have a look.

Well, I guess I will have the tranny flushed. It needs to be done anyway, But I really think that its a wiring thing cause now its just getting worse and sometimes the light won't come on at all. But the tranny still works like it should.

You probably have a broken wire where the wire enters the shifter handle. Take the plastic cover off of the steering column. You should see the wires where they enter the shifter. One or both are broken, or the insulation is worn off.

Well now the light doen't light up at all anymore. The switch still works and the tranny shifts just like normal it just doesn't light up anymore, I think it just burned out. So my question is now, is there a way to change the little light bulb in the shifter or do I need to get a whole new shifter?

Since you seem to have ignored this once before I'll repeat it, but only one time. After that you can figure it out yourself.

I have seen your comment and considered it but if the wire was broken the switch would not work but it does, I can still cancel out the OD. The light just does not light up anymore.

There are two wires. One to the switch, and one to the light.

Change what you want. It's not my money.
