Shaking in OD
Shaking in OD
I am puzzled by a shaking or shuddering in my automatic/overdrive tranny. If I am driving down the road and let off the gas, then ease back on it slightly, I get a fairly violent shaking from somewhere. It wont go away until the transmission downshifts a gear. Once I get back up to speed, ease off the throttle, and barely press accelerator again it starts shaking again. Could it be something in the valvebody? I have looked at the transmission and it says on the bottom of the pan... "Automatic/overdrive" and "metric". I have not seen a vacuum modulator on it. What transmission model is it and does anyone have an idea as to the problem? 1988 F-150, reg cab, 302-fuel injected.
Here's a thread with the same problem

Check the U-joints, check driveshaft for dings and dents,
have you ever had the tranny serviced ? How many miles on it?

I was hoping that all the work I have done to my 1988 XLT Lariat would fix the problem of the shaking AOD tranny. I started with the throttle pos. sensor because of how or when the shaking was happening. It starts as soon as I let off the gas after accelerating to get it into 3rd or OD, and barely get back on the gas. As soon as I get on the pedal hard enough to get a downshift from the tranny, it goes away. I have replaced the front U-joint, and the yoke looks fine. I have the one piece driveshaft and it looks to be in good condition. I honestly don't think the driveline is the problem. Considering that the problem happens at seemingly low rpms. I have noticed on one of the cables that hooks up to the top of the throttle body (the one with the 6 inch spring on it) that part of the "sleeve" is broken and might be hindering some of the operation. I am through guessing what it might be and I thank all who replied to give me possibilities. I am going to go to the dreaded mechanic to get a diagnosis and estimate and probably drive the truck until ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, have to get it worked on.
