Do I need a deeper pan?
Ok, I just got a new Transgo shift kit and a PPI auto trannie cooler w/fan, I was thinking of adding a TCI deep aluminum pan along with the new gasket and filter, but when I looked under the truck this is what I saw.
Here's the TCI Deep Pan:
It looks to me like it's already a deep pan, probably stamped steel though, anyone know. This is a 4x4, was the pan upgraded with the tow package or is this the standard size? Should I get the TCI aluminum pan or is my capacity the same? The TCI says it adds 2 quarts more than stock. I know I would get a little better cooling with the aluminum pan, but I think the new cooler should handle that, any thoughts? New TCI pan, filter, and gasket run about a buck fifty. No, I didn't start flushing the trannie yet, this is for a couple weeks from now.
Forgot, also wanted recommendations on fluid, I know Mercon V, but brand? Synthetic?

That looks like my stock pan on my non-towing 4x4. The dip is a sump for the pickup if I remember correctly. Been a while since I had mine off. (whoops guess I just told on myself maybe I should get the stuff to do mine)
Long and short of it I am pretty sure that is not a deep pan it is the stock one for a 4R70W. I'm sure Alan could tell in a heart beat though.
Hope that helps.

WVtrucker, Yeah, since I posted the question, I crawled under the truck and found that it's not as deep as it looked, guess I posted a stupid question :o . Thank you for the reply though, I ordered the TCI pan since it's a good price and has the angle at the rear for easier installation/removal. Just have to find out if it comes with a magnetic drain plug or not.
Anyone know if the factory Mercon V is synthetic or not? I just wanted to put the same in. I don't know if it's a good idea to convert to synthetic with 42,000 miles on it, i.e. if it does not have synthetic in it. It was dealer flushed around 20,000 miles (New torque convertor).
