Torque Converter Plug

I recently had my tranny serviced and was under my truck checking for leaks. I noticed a small bead of fluid on the torque converter plug so I grabbed a towel and wiped it off. I then pushed on the plug to make sure it was secure and it went up into the converter. I fished it out and reseated it. It was loose and had some play to it. No fluid came out when I pushed the plug in. Is this normal??????? The truck was parked and they tranny cold.

Sounds like you are talking about the rubber plug on the bottom of the torque converter shield. It is rubber and is pulled off by hand if you want to drain the torque converter which has a small metal plug that screws in. What you saw was not part of the torque converter.

Ok, I am clear now. That sounds good. I think I remeber now bout a post stating that something inside had to be undone to drain the converter.

As Tom S stated, that rubber plug is just a dust cover. If you remove it and look up inside then you'll see the big round torque converter. By turning the crankshaft, you'll find the converter drain plug (provided your truck is equipped with one).

Of course being he has a 2003 I would be concerned about fluid there. As I understand it they quit putting drain plugs in the converters at the end of 2001, so if he has fluid there something may be leaking. It's most likely mess from the fluid change but I'd watch it for awhile to make sure it isn't a leak.

Didn't pay attention, the 2003 will not have the converter drain plug. Ford quit putting them on after some of the earlier 2001's.
