Transmission Shift Kit

I have been researching the topic of shift kits for the Ford F150. I have a 2002 F150 FX4 5.4 V8, and am looking for a shift kit to improve the shifting firmness. I am not a big fan of boosing the pressure electronically because of some threads i have read about it being bad. I am down to the transgo, B&M, Factory Tech Valve Body and maybe the Banks Transcommand (although it is electronic). Any opinions out there on these kits would be greatly apprecieated. Thank you. :)

Do the FTVB.

Thanks for the replies. I have the 4R70W tranny in my truck (certification tag is a U). I have been leaning towards the Transgo Shift Kit because of the additional cost of the FTVB. They however dont seem to make one for my year, but they do make one for a 2001 i believe. Does anyone know if the kit would fit a 2002 tranny as long as its a 4R70W? I have also read that the 5.4 motor is supposed to be mated to the E4OD tranny? If so why is mine mated to the 4R70W? Thanks for your help.:bows:

Transgo= JUNK. I would sooner leave it stock than install the transbroke kit.
F150's get 4r70w transmissions excluding lightning and I guess some special orders. All of the 5.4 f-150's I have seen have the 4r70w(excluding lightning)

some of the early 5.4 (97 and 98) got the e40d!
Spend the $225 on the FTVB you won't be sorry!!!

Get the factory tech valve body!

I've decided to go with the FTVB because everyone says they are the best. No bad things to say about them. I'll report back when i get mine installed with my results of the kit.

I have read that when you install your FTVB that it calls for adding Mercon fluid and not Mercon V fluid. Does anyone know why this is? Wouldnt this hurt the TC because it wouldnt be able to "slip" as its designed to do? Please enlighten me on this subject. Thank you.

ALWAYS run what your tranny calls for, where did you read this? They may have been refering to a FTVB in an older tranny!

If you are talking about the 4r100 you are correct. The 4r70 still needs merconV
