Question What is this?

What are the symptoms of the transmission slipping? What do guys mean when they say their transmission is slipping? What does it feel like? I have no problem with my transmission engaging or changing gears, but sometimes my rear wheels feel as if they are, ever so slightly, spinning when I start but I know they are not. I suppose I could also discribe this as a slight grinding sound from the rear end. This does not happen everything I start from stop but enough to cause me to ask what's going on? Could this have something to do with my rear end gear change from stock to 4:10. It was completed about 8 months ago?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

If your transmission is slipping, you will know it. The symptoms are..... well, your transmission is slipping (as in disengaged).

you'll notice it mostly when starting out on a hill. releasing the clutch and the vehicle just creeps forward, or goes backwards.

Guys, thanks for your relies. Based on what you have provided, it is not my transmission...thank God. I was looking at the rear differential this morning and noticed that it looks dark and moist as if I am losing rear diff. oil. I have not notice a pool of oil under my truck, but could my problem come from a lost of rear diff. oil? The pan looks 100 years old and beat up. Would you recommend me getting a new rear differential pan, gasket seal, and adding lubricant as needed?
