4-Wheel Drive Engagement Motor
I am hoping someone can give me some insight into this.
1997 4.6 - manual 4x4 flr shifter Problem - not engaging into 4 wheel drive checked all vac lines - no problems Manual indicates to remove c clip and vac motor is ready for removal SHould the brass insert remove with the motor or is it a press fit. The dust cover mounting threads (on the axle housing) are preventing me from sliding the shaft through this brass bushing. Has anyone removed the vac pump? Any info would be great. |
Once you have removed the E clip extend the rod and plug the vacuum ports on the motor and then pull on the motor assembly till it is out of the holder. This will give it more side to side movement then push on it so you can slip the rod out of the notch on the lever then the motor can be removed.

I learned that if you take the motor apart inplace, the removal is much easier. The unit is actually snapped together. It's a little tricky snapping the unit back together on the reinstall but not too bad. Removal time -now that I have done it - 10 minutes. I believe the problem was a clogged vac port. Dissassembled and blew out the ports with compressed air. It seems to be wroking well. Thanks again. |
