4 wheel drive problem

My F-150 has the 4 wheel drive shift on the floor, it's not a dial switch. When I shift into 4 high.. the 4 high doesn't always engage. 4 low also has some problems engaging. when I do work it around some and get it into 4 high or low.. it doesn't always want to disengage. The truck has 90,000 on it. last year when I bought the truck with 80,000 the shifting worked fine... although pretty tight on the shifting. It has an automatic transmission. What can I look for. Is there linkage somewhere that might be working kind of rough.. or changing the transmission fluid... not sure where to start.

thanks

Lube the linkage with motor oil. Try shifting in and out a few dozen times to work the oil into the linkage. If that doesn't work check the oil level in the T-case. it shouild be at the edge of the fill hole.
