Unhappy Engine jerking...

Hello! At my wits end - just moved to FL - know NO mechanics... ARGH!!!!!

My engine seems to "jerk" when I am excelerating, going from 2nd to third. I also noticed it idles heavy - shaking - no violently, but enough to notice.

I have a mechanic friend in PA that told me to look for the "d-tend" cable - that there is a plastic piece with teeth on it. I have to adjust the teeth up or down - one at a time and drive it...

He also mentioned I would want to get it tuned... Changed the plugs and wires last summer I think.. maybe sooner...

On the plus side - she got me to FL - with no problems!! What a champ!

Help - the jerking is annoying and obviously needs attention.

How are we going to help if we don't know what you have?

That's detent, and a 1993 doesn't have one.

It does not sound like the problem has anything to do with the transmission. I believe your engine needs a tune up. I think you have one or more cylinders not firing correctly. New plugs, wires, etc, should fix it.

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 F150 Supercrew. I just recently got the transmission rebuilt. It wasn't jerking into gears before , but now it is. Do the 2001's have a detent cable. If so, do you think that's what could be my problem? It's got about 73,000 miles on it so I don't know if a tune-up is called for or not. Any ideas?

I agree with your tune-up suggestion - I have everything I need, cap/rotor/plugs/wires and will tackle it today.

1992 was the last year for the detent cable. I think yours also needs a tune up.
