What's causing my shudder?
I have a '01 Screw with the 5.4, it has developed a problem that is difficult for me to diagnose. While driving in overdrive the truck has an intermittent buck/shudder, that occurs when gradually accelerating (usually uphill). It doesn't seem to do it under hard acceleration or in other gears. I had the truck for over a year when I first noticed this problem about 30k miles at that time. Before it started I had the Tranny serviced @ Ford, supposedly they flushed and refilled the fluid including conditioner. At first I suspected an ignition problem, but have no check engine light or codes. So far I pulled all the coils and tested resistence, they test OK.
Any help or ideas anyone has about this problem is greatly appreciated. |
Could this be the infamous "tranny shudder" that so many others have?
I had the same problem and dropped a bottle of "LubeGuard" into the tranny after I had a flush and fill. It fixed mine for quite a while...and it's a cheap fix as well. Good luck...:beers: |
Update
My problem got alot worse and I was able to verify that it is a missfire and not a tranny problem after all, thank god, I think. Now all I have to do is track down the cause and fix it, hopefully it holds a code soon.

I'm gald to hear you say that chesnut, because I had this problem for years and then had the fuel injectors professionally cleaned and it seems to have gone away. I couldn't figure out why fuel injectors would effect the transmission unless some sensors got cleaned as well.
