can't Shift- synchronizers going out?

SOS!!! I can't shift into 1st gear at all - reverse only when truck is not running- takes both hands to shift into 2nd gear -it takes forever; 3 & 4 th seem to be getting harder as well -my dad said it could be synchronizers but that's all he'll tell me- My truck is a straight-6; 2 wheel drive 5 speed. This happened out of the blue - didn't have any problems until 4 days ago. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Are you grinding gears in between shifts, or does it just take more pressure/longer to shift? If you're noticing a problem with all the gears, chances are it's a clutch versus the synchros. Try to take note of the amount of pedal effort or resistance and if it's changed much lately. Also, with the gearing differential between 1st and 2nd, if your clutch is bad and you have to wait for the synchros to align, it will take quite a bit longer than on the other shifts.

BTW, what kind of truck, year, model, etc. is it?

Difficult shifing into 1st and reverse from a stop is often a sign of a clutch problem. Flush and bleed the clutch. If that does not help, have the clutch and master/slave cylinders checked out before getting into the tranny..
