Question Transmission Install Problem

I have a 94 F150 extended cab that I had to remove the transmission on so I could replace a freeze plug. I have the stock 6 cylinder engine and transmission that came with the truck. Now I am trying to re-install it but I am having problems. I have it up on jacks and it is within 1/2" - 3/4" from mating up but it will not go any further. I know there is a spline shaft on the transmission but does it go into the engine far enough to be mated up. If so, what is the easiest way to get the engine and tranny lined up so I can get it bolted up?

Is it a Auto or Standard shift Trans? If its a Automatic, make sure the Torque converter is all the way in the trans. & engaged in the pump. The converter mounting studs must also be aligned with the holes in the flywheel. On a Standard, make sure the Clutch Disc & Pilot bearing are still aligned. Use a clutch alignment tool to realign them. Also, I use 2 extra long Trans mounting bolts when I install Transmissions to help guide it in. Good Luck!

If it's an auto, make sure the converter is all the way in, it has to go 3 steps in and a straight edge should clear the converter when run across the bell housing. A trick I use in lining them up is to put 2 bolts with the heads cut off in the engine block, use them to guide the tranny in position, then put in a few bolts and remove the one with no heads, it works real good and will save a few headaches.

Hope this helps,

G
