put 01 expy in shop this morning, tell me what you think the prob is
 

I put our 01, 5.4 Expy in the shop this morning. Please chime in and tell me what you think the problem is before they call me back this afternoon.

The transmission is shuddering/slipping in gears 1-3 as far as I can tell. It is doing this during normal take off and acceleration. It is sort of a bumping feeling when accelerating even a bit.

As a side note, we tow a 5500 (when loaded) travel trailer occasionally. We never tow it in overdrive.

I am assuming I have the 4R70W tranny.

I have the same problem with my 01 Expedition. It almost seems like the torque converter is going bad but I'm not sure. I'm gonna change the fluid and filter in the tranny tonight and see if that helps, if not I guess I'll replace the torque converter. My 01 has 47k miles on it and I don't know if the fluid has been changed yet.



Does anyone know how much a new torque converter would be and is there a beter one than stock that I could get? Thanks

Ford dealership called. They said they are likley going to put in an entire new tranny, torque converter, etc. It seems that this is not the common shudder you ready so much about. All will be covered under the warranty.
