Shift Kit

I have a 1978 F150 Ranger XLT with a C6 transmission, and I have been advised NOT to add the shift kit for pulling a trailer. The reason was the kit might cause problems because of the age of the truck. What do you think?
Thanks

Dauber-

It doesn't matter how old your transmission is to utilize the improved shifts that a shift kit can add. At any age or mileage, the quicker shifts lower heat and increase friction material life. Towing only multiplies the benefits. The C-6 responds very well to shift kits and there are heavily tested shift kits available for it. If your transmission is on it's last leg, it won't matter if it has a shift kit or not.
