Code fault P0708

I've got a question. My truck is an 01 with 4.6 and an auto. My SES light was on so I bought a OBDII scanner (lucky me they were on sale at Kragen) to find out what the problem was. I came back with a P0708 cod wich according to the book is a Transmission Range Secsor Circuit High Input. What exactly does that mean? What should I replace?

If it's related a couple of month ago I was sitting in a parking lot idleing and the truck started shaking and then the OD off light started flashing. I turned the truck off, let is set for a couple of minutes, then restarted it with what appeared to be no problems. When I got back to the house I looked here to find out what it possibly could have been and seen that indicates a tranny sensor fault. Since it hasn't happened again I figured it was probally just a glitch but now I got this SES light and it comes back with a tranny fault so I'm kind of worried.

I reset it after I found the code and the light hasn't come back on yet so I'm just wondering what I should do. Thanks for the help.

The transmisison range sensor (TRS) is on the driver's side of the transmission where the shift cable attaches. There is a wiring harness that plugs into the TRS.

That code means either the TRS is bad or you have an intermittent wiring problem to the TRS. Common causes are dirt and/or water in the TRS and/or the connector to the TRS.

So should I just take it out, clean it up, put some electrical grease on the connectors to keep it clean, and not worry about it unless the SES light comes on again. Or should I just go ahead and replace the sensor? Thanks again.

Take it off and look for water and/or corrosion in the connector. If you can clean it up you should be fine.
