Tranny problem?

After replacing gears in my 01 Supercrew I installed the "abbott" ratio adaptor to make the speedo read right. Now the convertor when it is cold doesn't want to stay locked up. It locks and unlocks until temp warms up, then seems to act fine.

The ratio adaptor may not be the problem but it was fine until it was installed.

Re: Tranny problem?

Abbott Ratio Adaptor... That is probably why.

This is the first I've heard of an F-150 owner using this method to adjust for a tire size/gear ratio change. I think either the use or installation of this is the problem.

It sounds like there is a wiring problem between the transmission and PCM. The calibration of the PCM and transmission will not allow the torque converter to lock until the engine and/or transmission reach a certain temperature. That your TC will lock and then unlock shows that there is definitely an error, because the TC should not be locking at all while the engine and transmission are still warming up.

Either the adaptor is not installed properly or it simply does not work with this transmission/PCM combo.

What it actually sounds like to me is that the TCC solenoid is confused or shorting out. Unless you installed 4.10s, you may need to remove the adaptor and have the dealer recalibrate the PCM.
