Hard Down shift

I have a97' F150 4.2 with a 4r70w transmission. The tranny shifts down kind of hard when your coming to a stop. Anyone seen this?
I would suspect maybe bad u-joints, however it does not give the usual "clank" into reverse that a bad u-joint normally denotes. The tranny fluid and filter have been kept very clean and I have added a drain plug to the pan. Any Ideas?? Thanks.

My 98' does the same thing when I come to a stop, it clunks at 22 mph. It must have something to do with the transmission, because if you turn off the overdrive, it won't do it. It's been doing it for the three years I've had it, and nothing's broken or gotten worse.
