pulling 5th wheel

Any body pull a fifth wheel camp trailer with their 5.5 foot box? I have a sliding hitch from a different truck which works well but that truck had a 6.5 foot bed.

Strongly not recommended. Even a 6.5' bed is marginal for a 5th wheel, as is any 1/2 ton truck. The pin weight will put you over max payload capacity pretty quick.

Hi millerman - I moved your thread to the towing section because I think you'll get better, more informed responses here.

For what it's worth, I'm in glc's camp about using your f-150 this way. I don't think you have the axle and wheel margins of safety to tow a 5th wheel. I think you'd need a Superduty for that.

I've never towed a 5th wheel before, but my Dad has done it for a number of years with an 8' bed 3500 dually truck and never had any issues..

Anyway, they do have those extend hitch things for the trailer itself, but you might have more to think about than just the bed length depending on what size that 5ver is..

Do you have the 5th wheel you want to tow already? What are the specs of it because like was said, if it's gonna overload your truck, does it really matter if it will work on a 5.5 bed?

Good luck!

Mitch

I recommend minimally a F250.

Solid points. I agree its not enough truck, that's been my personal opinion on it in the past seeing guys in my area pulling doubles with their half tons. But I was hoping yall would disagree and tell me its fine because used 5th wheel trailers in my area are abundant and much more affordable lol. thanks for the feedback!

Now you can show the replies to your wife and use them as justification to buy that new F-250 (or better yet a F-350) lariat. FWIW my BIL just bought a travel trailer and a new F-350 lariat to pull it with and he LOVES it. My other BIL saw it and was so impressed that they immediately went out and bought an identical F-350 and a nearly identical trailer.

You wouldn't even need a diesel - there is a new 7.3 liter gas V-8 coming for the 2020 Super Duty. It's going to be an old school 2 valve pushrod engine tuned for tons of low end torque and will have a 10 speed heavy duty automatic.

Yeah, but the gas engine will be noisy and use more fuel because it's an old school design.

The 6.7l diesel is so much more refined and quieter.

Ford says the reason they went old school is for BETTER fuel economy. Read this:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...details-specs/

I don't care how refined the 6.7 is, it's still a diesel and it's going to clatter.
