2010 FX4 Screw - Towing 8600lbs... Time to upgrade?

I have a 2010 FX4 Screw with the Max Tow, (3:73, 5.4V8), built in brake controller, Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW and a set of LoadLifter 5000 ULTIMATE Air Bags with internal jounce bumpers. We use the airbags only with about 15-20lbs of pressure to help with a little bit of the leveling. We let the hitch do all the work as it is supposed to.

I pull a 2018 Puma 32BHKS (Dry Weight 8600lbs) and it's approx 36'.

We have been told a few times that this is way too much camper for the truck, and though I agree that if we were traveling through mountains or across the USA that this would be true. We usually travel locally in eastern Indiana. Longest trip is about 1-1 1/2 hours away. We don't travel with any water in the tanks (fresh, black, or gray) and we only travel with the food that is necessary.

This Screw has been amazing towing this trailer. We have had no issues as far as power, stability (even during hard braking) or any other safety issues. we are thinking about upgrading only because people have told us to. I want to know besides the fact that the F250 for example can tow more weight, and its heavier, would you upgrade?

I should also mention that we use the Screw as my daily driver as well.

Any knowledge is appreciated.

That's really too much trailer for any 1/2 ton truck, but if you can find a F-150 with HD Payload, Max Tow, and 3.5 Ecoboost that would do the job. Otherwise, start looking at F-250's with the 6.2 gas V8. Either way, keep your WD setup and get a factory Ford brake controller.

Yeah, F250 can tow more weight as compared to 2010 FX4. A friend living with me, too has purchased F250 few days back which is being transported with the help of Florida Transporter. He is pretty much excited for this WD as he was waiting for the long time to buy F250. This upgraded version can tow much heavier vehcile at a time and is much flexible to use. I am also thinking to buy one for me too soon.

Don't. You said yourself it works fine and it is safe. You don't have to listen to people that bought the $80,000 truck to pull a 8k pound camper twice a year. Use common sense. Most people do not.

....unless you have loads of dough to blow, then go buy the F450 to pull it so you will be good and sure you're under GCWR. I guess it would be safer...
