Provide power to door locks through trailer plug?

Hi,

After a couple of theft attempts (locks punch out) I decided to replace my door handles with rears from an Expy (no keys). It has worked out fine, I caught a couple of door checkers on my security cams and they looked puzzled.

I would like to remove my battery cable when out of town but then I couldn't get back in later. Also in case I do lose my battery I wouldn't be able get back in without Slim Jim.

My question is, could I rig up a trailer plug and provide power to the door locks just to get the doors open?

I hope this make s sense, thanks

If you have the factory 7-pin towing connector, it should be possible as long as everything is in order.

Suggest you try this out and thoroughly test it to see if it does work before leaving town. Keep your slim jim where you can get it if you need it.

Just inject +12 volts into the center pin of the 7-pin connector and connect a ground between the chassis and your source. That should back-feed power through what is the normal trailer battery feed circuit & fuse back to the battery positive terminal and then supply power to everything that's normally fed by the ALWAYS HOT feeds.

Or leave a window down during the testing phase

isn't there a relay used for the trailer power? Would that prevent charging the system from the plug?

(this is a question, not a statement!)

There IS a cutoff on the trailer battery charging circuit that keeps it off unless the ignition is ON. But, I think projectSHO89 was suggesting a different source, directly from the battery.

However, the OP has another thread where he's planning to use a Battery Tender and a "hidden" input plug to provide power to the door locks.

I may have looked at the incorrect connector in the wiring diagram when I initially posted. I'll need to check an additional resource.

Thanks for all the reply's. I decided on using a Moroso 74103 Twist Battery Terminal Safety Disconnect Switch 100amp 12v 24v DC with the Battery Tender pigtail I had extra from my motorcycles. I don't think I can deliver the power through the trailer connector without the ignition switch on.

You could add a relay to the circuit to bypass the ignition feed.

The "forced" 12v would supply power going into the truck, as well as energise the relay
