Towing a 27ft Toyhauler with a 01 F150 7700

Im looking to buy a toyhauler in the next day or 2. We are getting smoking deal on a 2017 27ft toyhauler. If I did my math correctly after I get my rzr loaded and everything else with the camper it should be around 7500lbs! Now My truck is a F150 7700 series heavy half, 3.73 rear, 4r100, trans cooler and all the good stuff they use on this model and not the average half ton 150s. Now!, I have 143k on the ole girl. Cared for miles but still relatively high. Would any of you be concerned this is to much for this truck to handle? Not really any long trips, longest being 2hrs tops and some hills in PA. P.S they will be installing brake controller, weight distribution hitch ect.....

Good luck on that #7500 "loaded" figure... But, who knows until it's actually weighed??

My little 22' TT weighs around #5000. #3400 dry weight according to the sticker...

I towed that 22' TT with a 97 F150 with a 5.4 and 3.55 gears and it was in 2nd gear on the grades and pretty much 3rd gear on the flats.. Your 2001 54 has a few more ponies, but you'll still need some rpms to get into it's peak power band..

It towed it pretty good, handling wise.. Just had to deal with the high rpms.. But, for a V8, at least it sounded good! Had just over 255,000 miles on it when I traded it for the Ecoboost.

Tow the same TT with the Eco and not even a comparison in terms if handing and power is not an issue anymore..

Anyway, good luck with it!

Mitch

Since you put larger tires on the truck, it would do better with lower gears. But, I wouldn't be afraid to tow the trailer with that truck.

which toy hauler are you looking at buying? Can you post a link or the name and model?

I too am a bit surprised to hear that a toy hauler that big is that light when loaded.

I'd keep speeds around 60, they cab get kinda unstable toeing heavy loads at high speeds.

Plus the 5.4 won't want to go much faster than 60 lugging that much weight

this link works better.

looks like a nice rig. Just watch your hitch weight and cargo weight for total payload capacity and you should be fine.

You are probably close to the limits on your truck, so just take it easy and set cruise at 60 when traveling and you should be OK.
