Don't have tow package and want to start towing

Ok, I have a 2006 FX4 5.4l supercrew without the factory tow package. I am thinking about buying a 18 foot enclosed trailer to haul around a couple of dirt bikes and or four wheelers every weekend. I am wanting to know what you guys would suggest as far as making the truck more capable?

I have a class 3 hitch I installed soon after I bought the truck but I've found a class 4 hitch I think I would purchase.

I have the four pin trailer plug and I would think I would need the 7 pin one, along with a brake controller. (the trailer I am looking at has electronic brakes) would this be doable? What would I need to do this?

Would I need a tranny cooler?

Anything else I would need, or you would do to your truck?

Thanks for all the help!!

A Class 3 hitch is good to 5000# and 500# tongue weight. If you need to tow heavier, you can get weight distribution bars, that will increase your max to 10000# and 1000# tongue weight. You would have a smoother tow that way instead of a class 4 without WD.

You will need these:

Tranny cooler would be a good idea.

You may need relays and fuses for the 7 pin.

I would also recommend the tranny cooler if you don't have one already. An enclosed trailer is going to give you a good amount of air resistance.
