what do yall think?

i have a 98 f150 4.6 with a rebuilt tranny with a trans go shift kit, what do yall think about pulling a 12-14k goose-neck or fifth-wheel, of course not stock with some upgrades 4.56 gears, tranny cooler and some heavy-duty leaf springs in the back, also what yall think about it pulling a 8k pound bumper pull travel trailer

Around the Farm or out on public roads?

You can hook up any kind of trailer with any kind of weight to just about any kind of rig and it'll move it down the road...

How safe it is or how it handles is another thing all together..

You still have a 1/2 ton frame that all of your "upgrades" are going to be attached to..

Not the best combo in the world IMO...

Other than being over all of the trucks 'official' weight ratings (GVWR, GAWR and GCWR), it'll move any load down the road you hook it up to... What effect that overloaded weight causes to the truck is anyone's guess...

I tow a #5000 TT and it puts my truck over it's GVWR by a couple hundred pounds... The truck has not imploded because of this, but what you are proposing is not what I would want to hook up to and take out on the road for any distance with my F150...

Good luck!

The 5th wheel is way, way too much. You'll be ok with the 8000# trailer though, just make sure you get some brakes on it too.

With a 98 4.6? I bet that truck isn't even rated for 6k pounds

Try again. Max tow is at up to 8300lbs, I hope that by "bumper tow" he means with a trailer hitch, and not truly on the bumper.

ok, what about the 7900lbs, or 8000lbs, or any of the other weight ratings in that link?

This guy already doesn't have his head on straight if he was thinking of towing over 10k lbs with a gooseneck and a 4.6...

My 06 4.6 with 3.73's is rated for 6500. My bro-in-law has an 04 heritage with the 4.6 and 3.55's his truck is rated at 6000. A 10k pound gooseneck on a half to truck is kinda out there, but don't ask don't know sometimes. My guess for a non pi 4.6 is gunna be between 6 and 7k if its a 2wd. The other ratings are for different trim levels, different gear ratios, 4wd or 2wd, etc...

Fine, you're 100% right, I'm so glad that you corrected my statement with examples from your trucks...

so whats the tow rating for a 4.6 with 4.56s?

Same as it is with 3.55's... Changing the gears does not change the GVWR of the truck. Sure, the 4.56's will allow it to take off better and cruise in 3rd better, but with 35" tires, it's gonna actually be like 3.73's and stock tires for the most part.. (the OP has another post going asking about the rpms of 4.56's and 35" tires)

He's only got a best of #6250 GVWR on the truck.. Technically, once you hit any of the other trucks weight limits, it does not matter if the "tow rating" is #10,000... It's reached one of it's others 'limits' and that's it's tow rating.. (like I said, my #5000 TT puts me over my trucks GVWR, and my truck has a "tow rating" of #7700..)

Doesn't really matter.... Anything you do to a 1998 F150 with a 4.6 is not going to make it capable of safely and within it's existing weight ratings to tow a #8000 trailer from either a hitch or a gooseneck..

While you WILL get down the road if you decide to do this with this truck, it's your choice as it WILL be overweight in all aspects. What happens at that point is dependent on your local laws and your own luck I suppose...

You should go to a F250 or something bigger... Don't tow these things with a F150
