Exclamation what the most towed whit 4.6 tirton?

who tow the most with a 4.6? i towed 8000lbs on a 3hr run just not fast on steep hills the 4.6 i think is alot better then the 5.4 guys think, the 5.4 is better. any one tow more then this befor let me know. ford make a tough tuck and rates them way low more then any other. my father has a gm with 3.4 v6 and tows a 8000lbs fithwheel all the time ,and ford is better in class why do they rate them so low.

Power/torque is never the limit to towing. People have been moving 10k pounds with less than 200hp and 250ft-lb for 50 years.

Engine, Trans, springs, differentials, brakes, bushings, bearings, shocks and more all play a role in determining the weight limits for every vehicle.

The 4.6L is a great engine. The 5.4L is over the same engine design, so it is a great engine as well. The 5.4L just offers a better value. $600 in aftermarket parts will not get nearly the power increases at the cost of the 5.4L from Ford with 5-10% worse fuel economy.

I used to move around our 1977 Taurus TT that weighed around #6000 with a 14 hp Kubota tractor with no problem when I was a kid.... Put it in low gear, and let the clutch out and park it where ever you wanted it to go... Just don't turn with it while going forward down hill.....

IMO, it's not so much how much HP/TQ you have or what "tow rating" you have.... It's about the weight ratio between your truck and the trailer.... If the trailer weighs more then the truck, then the trailer is going to be the dominate factor while towing in whatever situation.... If the truck weighs more then the trailer, then the truck is going to be the dominate factor.... Once that scale turns to the trailers favor, then you are at it's mercy when things go bad....

I've been towing things since I was 16 years old and I've done that from coast to coast and driving all sorts of rigs below #26,000 GVWR, so I never needed a CDL... All I'm saying is that you can tow whatever you can hitch up to any vehicle, but once that trailer is the one that dominates over the other, then you better be on your toes while doing it!!

I see people towing longer and heavier travel trailers then mine with smaller, lighter, narrower tow vehicles all the time.... I just shrug my shoulders and figure they will get to where they are going, but wonder what's going to happen on the one "bad" day they encounter.....

Leave the "MAX" towing to the 3/4 and above trucks and if you must tow with your F150, then at least keep the trailer weight to what the truck weighs and you'll be a happy camper for the most part....

curtr...just lookin in today. I started on this site long ago & have since moved on. Q. about 4.6L brings back old memories.

Your getting good advice etc. here. Curious...You don't list any specifics other than 4.6L towing 8000#? Like..MY..stock..gear ratio.."a/t or manual" etc.

FWIW...My old 99 maynot be good comparison? But, weak link for me was my stock (light duty) a/t failed twice. Maybe luck of draw so to speak, but mine couldn't handle my legal GCWR..truck loaded & 5K# TT. Motor was good OTR flat, but dshifting to 2nd & motor screeming on long up grades not good.JMO! Now, V6 towing 8K hmmmm? Good luck!

I don't think GM ever put a 3.4L V6 in their trucks. There was a 4.3L in the 90's. I'm sure it could pull 8k pounds. Once again, 8k pounds is to much for any 1/2 ton, especially for a 5th wheel @ 20-25% pin weight.

I'm with APT on this... can't recall them putting a 3.4 in trucks... only the 4.3 in the S-10's and full size 1500's....

some of you guys like to stick to rules and that makes good safe drivers,i think you shoud stay away farm here because everyone here tow over their limt, that 8k was a one time thing my tt is 6000 loaded up and feel very safe towing it, i would like to know much it would take to kill the truck becase my with towing pak is the same as the 5.4 but i have a 4.6 and when you tow something you know you drive diff if you want to be safe.ok if 8k is to much for a 1/2 ton why are some rated so high.and you can stop relly fast by down shifing if nebe i have done it before.with out bakes on ice one time it was not fun.and that was a 4.3 sorry my bad.

Man, no offense but reading this made my brain hurt. Turn on spell check and grammar check. It will give you a lot more credibility.

And it's irresponsible to recommend otherwise on a public forum. Anything else is bad advice.

No, everyone here does NOT tow over their limits. Maybe YOU are the one who should stay away. At least tell us where you are going to be so we can avoid the roads you are on.

i would like to know much it would take to kill the truck
You probably won't kill your truck overloading it. However,it's not something you should make a habit out of doing.

Sorry, I can't make sense of anything else you said.
