F150 7700 Gvwr

I recently purchased a 2002 F150 w/5.4 and 7700 GVWR. It has 3.73 rear end. I have been getting about 14 mpg over first 5000 miles. Is this about right for this truck.

Its a regular cab 4 x 4, does anyone know what this truck weighs? Trying to figure how much I can tow. Does anyone know what other features besides snow plow prep pkg that comes with this 7700 series? Thanks for any info!!

Mine weighs 5550 with full tank of gas and one famine-resistant driver.

You do know that the 7700 was called an F-250 LD in 1999 -- and became the 7700 in 2000.

The frame is larger than the normal F150.

Torque rods are longer.

Your GCWR is 13500 give or take an argument somewhere.

Some came with 100 series trannies; mine came with the 70.

Your gas mileage sounds spot-on -- and sucks in winter (where I'm convinced the reformulated-for-winter gasoline suffers by 10%).

I ran some 350 miles last weekend at speeds of 65 thru 80 and got 16.15 (I fill to overflow when I check mileage -- so it's pretty accurate) -- and the best I ever got was 16.9 with those being highway speeds at legal limits.

Towing my trailer (20 foot Wilderness) at a GCW of around 11,500 -- I get around 7.75-8.5 MPG in direct; and about 10 in OD -- however, I think I am going to abandon using OD (when towing) for a variety of reasons.

You have a 10.25 dia ring gear in the rear -- and I think 8.25 in the front.

Rear brakes are disc -- with drum parking brakes (cute little set-up).

The 7700 is the only F150 certified for snow plow and slide-in camper -- but the slide in camper can only weigh up to 1279#.

I love mine (but wish for more power -- wanted the V10).

(edit) P.S.: Rotate your tires (front to back) tomorrow.

Y2K 7700 4x4,

Mine has the 100 series tranny. What is the difference between the 100 & the 70?

Thanks!

The 100 is the 'beefier' transmission, has a lower numeric ratio first gear ("taller", less gear reduction) than the 70, and is the current transmission used in the Lightning.

A 105 has been announced.

Ditto with others except mine was certified to carry a 1,531 lb. camper with 750 lbs of passengers. As we 4 only weigh 600 lbs, we carry a 1,690 lb camper. As pictured without bikes and rack, I weigh 7.700 lbs loaded for camping without fuel. No aux springs required as such. 4R100 trans is the heavy duty model.

Cool

Well, mine gets 13-14 in town, 16-17 on the highway. It weighs 5600 with full tank and me (240). As far as towing, take the GCWR of 13500 and take away the weight of the truck, should be in the neighborhood of 8500. Along with the snow plow prep thingy there should have been a slide-in camper cert in the glove box. Mine is rated for a 1500# camper, dry I believe. Loaded somewhere around 1900#, a few hundred below the 7700 gvw. These trucks, imho, are very underrated. They have numerous heavy duty items and in some cases have a higher capacity than an F250 SD. I threw almost 2000lbs of rock in the bed and it didn't squat, just leveled. So far I am very impressed with my truck.
Btw Andy, I'm still getting a camper, probably an Angler like yours. But, this year I believe Fleetwood dropped the Angler name and now call it an Elkhorn Lite, or something like that. Same camper, different name. Montana here I come!

Lightbulb

Almost forgot...Y2K, I find that odd that yours came with the 70 instead of a 4R100, are you sure it's not a typo on the door sticker?

I've stared at it and even squinted my eyes, and even chanted "...there's no place like home - there's no place like home..." -- but it's still a 70 (built in 10/99 -- when they couldn't build enough trucks fast enough).

It even came with "The Green Sticker" on the tranny (long thread on that one).

Yah, Fleetwood has been paring down their Angler and Elkhorn lines the last few years. I can't believe other manufactures can't build a comparable camper. I got the 8B thin width due to the old truck. If I were to do it again, I might buy the 8C normal width. I was 1,400 lbs overweight with the old truck. The 7,700 could handle the extra 200 lbs.
