Question shock adjustments

I have just put on new shocks , the monroe reflexs ,for some reason could not get the rancho's up here . Anyway , here is my
question ? . Last year I had to add extra leaf springs to the truck .
Ford only supplied three to each side , can't put much weight in the bed with that . I added two to each side which raised the rear end , now they have settled , but for some reason I feel
that only when I am loaded do I feel the effects of my new shock ,
which feel very sweet . But I can't drive around with a load every day in the bed , ie: gas consumption. Is there a way I may shim the shocks so that they are in full use , even when the bed is empty ?

Thanks for any response Eli

Check to see if your springs are flat. They should have some arch to them and should not be riding on the short fat stiff lowest spring. This is designed as an overload spring and to keep the springs from inverting. What year is it?

Smile Shims for shocks

Thanks for the response , The leafs are arched like they should be . Basically I have built new post that fit into the footing of the
original supports , so there is no swing while I drive . This has resulted in a 3 inch lift to the shock . Which has resulted in equal use of both shock and leaf srings . (If I had been able to get the rancho's with the four inch lift would have given me the same results.) So basically my problem is solved . The shock are doing what they were meant to do .
P.S a 1998 4x4 F-150 4.2 litre
