Want Smoother Ride for 2012 F150, Help?
 

Don't get me wrong, I like the new 2012 F150 Extended Cab 4x4 but have noticed that the ride is stiffer, more abrupt than the 2011 Chevy that I traded off.
The F150 came with Hancook P235/75/17 All Terrain Tires and 7200# GVWR package. Does anyone have any advice on different tires, different size tires, different shock absorbers? I do like the gas mileage on the new F150 and find it to be about 2 miles per gallon on the average, better than the Chevy as the overall mileage has been 18.58 mpg so far.

Is it a 7 lug truck?

You might want to look at an adjustable ride shock such as the Rancho rs9000, on its lower settings it was a darn comfy ride on my 2006.

No, it is the standard 6 lug wheel

my advice, switch shocks out and if still not satisfied tires.

my 2011 rides like a car, i'll be stiffening the ride up w/ some different shocks so i actually feel like it's a truck when i replace the tires.

Put some miles on it before you break out the credit card. I'm 5700 miles into my 2011 and am going to change out the shocks to make it stiffer, like a truck should be.

Both my 02 and my 11 were way to soft from the factory.

I went to Ranchos first then Bilsteins on my 02. I will go with Bilsteins on the 11.

Before you start dropping cash on parts, check your tire PSI. My FX4 was pretty stiff right off the lot. The bed felt like it was bouncing and kicking out on the freeway so I dropped between 5 and 10psi on each tire. It made a world of difference. Later on down the road I got Bilstein 5100s then finally Rancho R9000xls but that's another story...

Thanks for the reply Stove Top. I am now carrying 32 psi in the tires. At what point will the Tire Pressure Monitor Warning come on? Guess I could try letting air out to see at what point it comes on but am sure you have already checked that out. I did have a flat tire and the alarm did kick in but I have no idea what the trigger point was.
