Upper Ball Joint Boot

Both boots on my upper ball joints are torn. Are the Ball joints done for? There is no play in the wheels when I try to rock them from top to bottom. Lower ball joints look fine. Apparently the previous owner already replaced them with greasable moog ball joints. Looking into doing the same to the uppers.

Thanks for the help.

Yep, they will be gone soon with torn boots. Go to Rock Auto and order both right and left upper control arms (MOOG Greasable) and you will be golden.

Will the alignment be off after swapping the upper control arms?

Great question

But I have another ? If upper and lower BJ are replaced will moog ball joints hold up better than the stockers even with a two inchnspacer ? And will ride quality be improved to how it used to be new ?

Thanks appreciate the help maybe this would benefit the op as well

Not so fast there hot-rod. What type of truck does he have? On '97-'03's is will most certainly be jacked up. The caster/camber is adjusted by a wobble plate (don't know what esle to call it) which is attached to the two bolts that hold the upper control arm on. I may be wrong, but pretty sure the NBS trucks are the same design.

Look at the bolts for the control arm...if you see a lop-sided washer on the bolt, then that's your adjustment. You can mark them when you take them off and get them pretty colse when you put it back together, but it won't be perfect.

Yes, it will feel like new, but not improved upon...if you notice.

On the NBS trucks (04+) the alignment is done with the lower control arms, HOWEVER, that being said....Anytime any front suspension component is replaced, an alignment is HIGHLY recommended !

yep for some reason i always assume its an 04+ which do not have any adjustment in the uppers, just the lowers adjust the alignment. but a bad ball joint could be from a bad alignment and wouldnt hurt no matter what year it is
