Who has 35's with new gears? What's your MPG?
I'm wanting to get a 6 inch lift and 35's. I have stock 3.55 limited slip gears now, and I know they aren't strong enough. I have a 2006 F-150 4X4 with the 5.4 V8. This truck is my daily driver. I'm thinking 4.56 gears. I do a good bit of highway driving so 4.88's might be too low for me. I don't plan to go up to 37's. Who has 35's and can tell me your milage with whatever gears you have? And what are the best gears? A lot of people are saying Yukons

I had 3.55 on my 05 with 35s and it was a turd. I wish I would've regeared. Yukons seem to be the favorite around here that's what I've got for my 09

I would like to hear something on this as well as I am also conserdering re-gearing.
|
What are u being quoted to re-gear your truck? Have heard its in the neighborhood of 1500? It's a ways away for me, but something I would like to do since I have the not so good for towing 3.55's as well.

If you tell me your OEM tire size, I can tell you what gear ratio to install to have the OEM "feel" (and probably mpg) back. Anything more aggressive would be up to you.

To the OP. 35'' --> 4.56 37''-38'' --> 4.88 So now if you know FOR SURE you will be going the 37'' or 38'' sooner than later than don't waste money on the 4.56 and go straight ahend to the 4.88. Have some tuner do a good custom tune to compensate for the 4.88 and 35'' set-up until you go bigger. In any case go with yukon gears through Wayne @ diffsonly.com ask him for a quote. He has the best price period.

And I don't want to bragg but hit the search button. This has been covered several times.

Mossy, to get "exactly" your effective Gear Ratio of 3.55 back with 35" tires, you'd need to install 4.00 gears. But of course, you wouldn't do that. Your OEM tires had an approximate 31" diameter.
To give you some guidance, I have 32" OEM tires and 3.73 gears. At 70 MPH with the Torque Converter locked in 4th gear, the engine is turning over at 1972 RPM. Your OEM tire/gear setup should have put you at 1877 RPM at 70 MPH. (As was said, not the best towing setup.) Now, if you changed to 35" tires and mounted 4.10 gears, you'd see about 1978 RPM and if you went up to 4.56 gears, you'd see about 2200 RPM. So, that gives you some idea of what to expect, at least. Oh, and my highway average economy over 7,500 non-towing miles is 15.2 MPG, and most of my driving is on the interstate at 75 - 78 MPH. - Jack |
People who dont regear have NO idea what they are missing.

I just got a 6" pro comp lift, with 35" tires and added the edge evolution programer with 4.10 gears. I have the 5.4 motor and i am getting about 13.5 mpg in the city and 16.5 on the highway. Truck runs alot better since i did do the gears, my gears stock were 3.55. Got my gear kit from superior gear and axle for about $250.00.
