Replacement Shocks

Have gotten Expensive!!! The past 2 trucks (93 and 97 F150's) I've put monroe sensetrac on the front, and the monroe over-load shocks on the rear. Think I want to go w/ something different this time though.

What all are ya'll using on your stock height or leveled F150's & are you satisfied with ride quality? Oh, and how much did you spend...

^ +1 for Bilsteins. Have them on my Expd, had them on my F150, also put them on my father's Explorer. Consider them money well spent. Currently around 250.00 a set.

Love my Rancho 9000's! Best shock I've had on my truck yet. Spent about $700-ish. Careful with bilsteins on our trucks...from time to time there's been reports where the front shocks are too short. Shock fully extends before suspension travel does, and it does affect the ride quality. Not trying to scare you away, just something to check when you put them on if you get them.

Another very overlooked shock that I've had and really really liked on my stock truck were the Edelbrocks. Would definitely consider them again. Don't know what they're going for these days, but it's a shame they're not more popular than they are.

Yeah I saw some edelbrocks on ebay for a decent price, advance auto carries them as well... wasnt sure about how they'd hold up since I've never used them or seen anyone use them...

Whats the deal with the bilstiens though? being too short? Is that an error in shipping, i.e. they sent the wrong ones or is it a defective product? And is it just one model or all?

Not a shipping error, seems to be a design issue or something. It's isolated to our body style ('97-'03) and just the front ones. I was looking into Bilstein for my last round of shocks. With my 4" lift, I checked all the measurements on my truck and then called Bilstein to get the extended and collapsed length of the shock they listed for trucks with a 4" lift. The shock was too short by a tiny bit. I checked the length of the shock they had listed for trucks with a 6" lift and it would have been perfect...meaning it would obviously had been too short for a truck with a 6" lift.

So, I told the guy on the phone what I had and we went over the results and he said "he'd look into it". He also mentioned that maybe they use the shock to control the suspension travel and limit it that way. I'm throwin up the BS flag on that one. And even if that was correct, I don't want my shock limiting my travel. That's rough on the shock, extremely rough on that upper mount/bushings, and degrades your ride/handling. I know because like I said earlier, there's been a few guys that reported on this.

I never really intended on going with the Bilstein cause I wanted a reservoir shock anyways (and I don't like the way the ones for our truck mount [body down/shaft up]), but it was fun investigating.

Ah ok.. Well thanks for that info. I think I'll look into the edelbrocks and see what kind of price I can get on them.
