04 FX4 with leveling kit / which Bilstein's?
 

Hey guys, I have a 04 FX4 4X4 with the leveling kit and 285/70/17 with NO AFTERMARKET LIFT KIT, so the suspension is stock factory height. Im ready to get new shocks and would like to know if I should remove the leveling kit and go with the silver 5100 series Bilsteins? or leave the leveling kit on and can I still use the silver 5100 series? or do I have to go with the ugly yellow Bilstein shocks?

Doesn't look like they have the front struts in stock, but you can ask them about them.

Thanks very much for the info. I have gone back through the threads (I know I know, I should have spent more time looking, my fault) but I've found that going with the 5100s, keeping the leveling spacer and setting the fronts to "0", put the rear ones on and see how it sets is what many are doing. If it still has a slight rake to the front, then just turn the fronts up to "1". So if anyone else can use this info I hope its helpful. I will post up after the install and give my results with pics.

bump cause im wondering the same thing. looking to make my ride quality a little better since the 3 inch leveling kit i put on.

I have on 07 FX4 and jsut installed 5100's last week. I had 2 inches of rake and now have none by eyeball. I have not measured yet but it looks level. It's level enought for me to not want to touch it. I supposed you could put on 5100 and set the shocks to stock hieght, but what's the point? I have the height set at 2 inches and it rides like factory or better. No ride sacrifices at all. If you set 5100's and then add any space kit, for a level look you may need to then add blocks or add-a-leafs

You have three options in your scenario...

1. Keep your leveling kit and install the 5100's at a 0 setting.
2. Revome your leveling kit and install the 5100's at either preferred setting (1" or 2")
3. Keep your leveling kit and install the HD's

Don't know why you wouldn't want to do option 2, but that's up to you. I would not keep your leveling kit and use any setting besides 0 on the 5100's.

I appreciate all the info guys. The frustrating part for me is that I keep getting different part numbers from everyone Im talking to and Im a bit gun shy now as to what the right part numbers are. Maybe I should just buy the yellow ones and paint them before they go on? Those are the HDs right?

Yes, the HD's are the yellow. And I'm here to tell you I wouldn't waste my time painting them...on the front, you literally can't see them anyways. They're really not that intrusive. My dad has the HD's, but I did the install.

If you have to buy new shocks anyways then i would get the adjustable 5100's. That way later on if you wanna add a bigger lift you could just do a basic 6 inch and adjust the 5100s to 2inch ride height and have an 8 inch lift kit. Thats without the leveling kit though. Thats just me thought. I want an 8 inch you might not. But with the 5100s u have alot more options i think.

Very good point. Im gonna go with the HDs for now, and maybe later on should I deside to lift it maybe by then the 5100s will be off backorder..
