body lifts

I talked to 2 local stores that do body lifts and niether of them recommended it. Why not? also why is the install like $1000? what did you guys pay for yours? thanks

They probably didnt recommend it because its a pain in the butt for them and they could get more money if you got a suspension lift kit. Just my thoughts.

i hear alot of people say body lifts really beat on the truck, esspecialy the suspension, and only recomend them if you have a suspention lift already - but I dont no that from experience.

How can it beat on the suspension?
It has absolutely nothing to do with your suspension. Lifting the cab off of the frame with spacers effects absolutely nothing suspension wise.

I am getting ready to install a PA 3" bl on mine and if you are mechanically savvy enough to take this project on your self then it will cost less than $300

Paying someone to install a bl is not cost effective.
Do it yourself, take your time, read instructions carefully and save a TON of money.

we need some info on your truck.

but body lifts are pretty good

Yeah, Im thinking of doing one on mine as well. Shops can charge anywhere in the price range for doing one, they didnt recommend like stated above.. they know its a pain or would rather make more money on a suspension lift. Just keep calling around, if not.. do it yourself for free.. but the kit is hella expensive for a body lift.. its like $420. Just read instructions and take your time.

My opinion is a suspension lift is a lot harder on a truck than a body lift. Flame suit on. lol

wes1333 08-17-2010 07:17 PM

Body lift is deffinatly not hard on the suspension.

i paid $498. Shop said they will never do it again though lol

Everyone says that body lifts are a pain to install on the 04-08 F-150's. They are a lot easier to install on the 97-03's.

logan123 08-17-2010 11:17 PM

Their a b^%$ to install and they might be lazy? :) haha but on another note body lifts put the actual body of the truck higher while keeping the engine and wiring etc. the same. It makes it really hard to do anything under the hood (i mean its hard to reach and stuff) and sometimes it stretches wires that only have a little slack without the body lift. I have a wire that had a little more than enough slack to reach its point and when i put my body lift on there was no slack. If anything were to shift or you hit a bumb just right it could rip? Haven't had a problem with it all yet. I think it will be fine. Just my thoughts on it. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

If anything it's easier to work in engine bay because you get that extra 3" clearance in the back. It definitely made pulling the heads off my truck a lot easier.

wandell 08-18-2010 12:08 PM

I agree.

I just did a body lift on my rig a coupla weeks ago. I did it all myself, in my gravel driveway, with simple hand tools, and a floor jack. Use the tips you can find at this site to guide you through the areas that others have had problems with, and it will be easy. Just give yourself lots of time, I did mine in about 15 hours total, but I wasn't worried about time. The hardest part for me was getting the rear bumper to sit just right.
And the satisfaction of doing it yourself is nice, too.

And you save a chunk of coinage for other truck parts:)

What are you using for the front tow hooks sledman?
