4x conversion
Hi guys,
This will be my first thread, so I want to say hi to start with! I've done a 4x swap on my 84 (front end took about 1.5 hours with the parts laying there), and I just kind of wondered if its the sme gig on a newer truck (98 F-150). Are the frames the same from 2 to 4wd? Now before anyone questions my sanity or tells me to find a 4x4 to start with, just know that I'm basically getting this thing for free (after I fix the knocking rod, because the prev. owner didn't maintain it properly), and like to mess with this kind of stuff on the cheap. I think I could get a donor truck with all the parts for reasonable through the same source... What do you guys think? Frank |
Stock for stock, the 4x4 frame is different. You could swap in a solid axle though. :D

Yea, that would prolly be the better way to go in the frst place...any idea what axle I would need to find for that? I'm assuming it would have to be coils, but I'll have to go out and take a gander at it...do the stock diffs still drop on the drivers side?

stock 2wd front suspension is coil sprung (Short-Long arm)
stock 4x4 front suspension is torsion bar (Short-Long arm) your best would be just getting a 4x4, or at a bare minimum a front half of the frame from a 4x4 so you can get the suspension setup and torsion crossmember and all that As for the diff, i believe they are on drivers side as well |
