Horton Hears a CLUNK

I've been experiencing a clunking noise when going over speed bumps, mainly at slower (40KPH) speeds.

Had a chance to drive my my buddy's '07 Lariat and his did not clunk at all. He doesnt have a levelling but has 275/70/17 Coopers like mine

Could the clunking be a result of the leveling kit installation?? I know a leveling kit is not supose to effect your ride. Maybe Ford forgot a part when reassembling the suspension when they installing my levelling kit?

Any ideas?

Hey fx4tough07,

Thanks for the reply! Finally someone else who is experiencing the same thing that I am and can shed some light on the situtation.

Any ideas how we can get this to stop? Im presuming that the extra weight of the wheel tire combo is enough to extend the shock to the max. Is this a simple matter that the stock shocks that are still on do not have enough rebound damping to prevent the upper arm from hitting the spring? Would a heavy duty shock prevent this from happening??

I switched to bilstein 5100's and it doesnt do as bad now. So maybe my stock shocks weren't strong enough to keep my 33's and 20's from maxing out the shock.

Chedk the torque on everything. When I installed my leveling kit years ago I didn't torque the sway bar endlink where ot installs into the lower control arm enough and it made a clunk. Retorqued and no clunk.

Hey Stealth,

Thanks for the reply. Its been confirmed that the upper control arm is in fact hitting the spring as there is a visible mark on the spring.

Do you still think it might be the sway bar? Lats time I was in at the dealer they said all looked fine. How tight (what torque) do they need to be at?

Hey fx4t7 - got your PM's thanks man! Did you removed the leveling kit when you went with the 5100's?
