awesome thats good to hear...did your truck come out pretty level or did u have to get a leveling kit?

I just installed the same lift on my truck about two weeks ago. My only complaint is that the tie rods hit the sway bar links at full steering lock. Other than that I am very impressed.

One more thing. On the Fabtech 6" the instructions tell you not to unbolt the tubular frame crossmember until you have the new one in place. Doing this can cause the frame to spring apart and it is obviously very difficult to get it back together. Well the RCD said nothing about this, so I trusted them and took off the crossmember like it said to do. Well what do you know, I could not get the frame to come back together enough for the holes to line up with the new crossmember. After about an hour and a half I gave up and just drilled the holes out (they were only about 1/8" off) so I could get the bolt through.

So before you take that crossmember off, see if you can either bolt up the new one first (I don't think you can because I'm pretty sure it uses the same holes) or if you can come up with some way of keeping the frame together. It will make your life easier. Oh and the instructions are horrible. The diagrams look like they were drawn by a 4 year old on PCP. You'll pretty much be figuring it all out on your own. I was pissed about that, but the lift seems very well constructed so I kinda let it go.

Where did you order the lift from?

EDIT: Whoops, I just realized you are having a shop do the install. I'll leave this info up for anybody else who may be installing their own.

ill have the truck at the shop yes...its where my buddy works so i may be there overseeing the operation and jumpin in if needed. its not that i cant work on my own stuff...ive restored a lot of classic cars, i just dont have the time to do it it myself and air-tools make things much simpler at times. plus i work shift work in a paper mill so i dont know what ill be workin yet when it arrives.

yes, ive heard the instructions ares crappy. i seen that some guys downloaded the rancho lift instructions and that helped...might jump on that bandwagon

thanks for the info about the crossmember...noted

bought the lift from national tire & wheel

doitonall4s 03-17-2009 07:48 PM

thanks. yea i think things through for a long time before i buy sumthin for my truck. The RCD seems to be the hot-ticket for my setup. im hopin the lift will be installed by the end of the month or very beginning of april at the latest.

love the name str8t six...i have a 200 straight six in my 65 ford falcon and that engine is fricken bulletproof and sounds better than most v-8s

str8t six 03-18-2009 06:06 PM

i used to drive an older ford that had a 300 in it. so i thought it would be a good name lol

UPDATE: estimated arrival date from fedx for my lift is THIS FRI. a lot sooner than i thought. Hopefully it will be installed by the end of next week. awesome
