Will my 305's look good under a 6" Fabtech?
Going to the shop today to order a 6" Fabtech (before the queen bee changes the green light). I am running BFG's AT"s- 305-16 on 10" Eagle Alloy's. Hoping these tires will be more than adequate for a nice balanced look under the 6" suspension lift. Swapping tires out is NOT an option at this point. Truck is a 2000. I HOPE to get my truck this clean again!
Here is an old picture with the then new tires/wheels: http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...r/truck001.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...r/truck006.jpg |
They will look a little small. This is what I would suggest. When the installation is done, don't crank the torsion bars up too tight. In other words, don't crank them up till you get 6 inches of lift. You can crank them up when you get larger tires.

I am a suspension know-nothing. I thought I would get an instant 6" of lift with the new Fabtech suspension, and not have to touch the torsion bars?

x2 on what wandell recommended
They will look small but not horrible. Id do the install, keep the tires if they are too small to bear then start looking for a USED set of 35's for really cheap. I got 6 36x12.5x16 TSL's for 50 bucks and they had over half tread. You got to look for deals. craigslist is your friend. But it will look OK for the time being. |
you will get 6" of lift from the Fabtech. It will level the front of the truck then add another 4" or so. But will actually be a true 6" You can however crank that out to 8" which is what wandell is saying to avoid

wandell and trimble- thanks. I had no intention of cranking the torsion bars. wadell mentioned cranking the bars untill I get 6" of lift. I guess he meant 8". wandell does not make mistakes, but I guess there is always a first time <grin>.
The truck sits level as stock, LESS than 1/2" difference between front and back. I was a little worried it might look a little goofy with the 305's. Spending some serious $$, so I don't want to be dissapointed. I wonder if there are pictures of 305's with a 6" lift?? Hey trimble, I just got back from a Disney death march. Dude, it's hot down your neck of the woods! |
haha yeah i know... it has been really nice lately in the 40's to 70's
then last week it hit close to 90 and i was dyin. I work outside every single day. ill see if i can find a picture i know there used to be one. |
hey trimble, thanks buddy. I am in NC, and I came back wearing a T-shirt to the mid-30's. Brrr. I am going hog hunting the end of the week, so I hope it stays cool.

Another question concerning the 33's with a 6" lift. Won't the extra clearance be of benefit off-road? I am tired of the stuffed in look I have now, but a goofy roller skate look is worse.

The 6" and 33's will give you a TON of flex room. The 6" and 35's will be plenty for normal offroad flex. |
4.2 Trimble
i just ordered 33's (33x12.5x17) for my truck today that has the 6" fabtech, do you think i should have gone with the 35's (35x12.5x17) ???? let me know so i can call and change my order http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...Arawak1004.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...Arawak1005.jpg |

sorry for the 'hijack', but i think we got the same questions looking for the same answer. pics above show stock 265/70/17's |
yes i believe you would have been happier with the 35's but since you lower the Fabtech down a bit 35's might be ok.
its really up to the person. My tires only measured out to alittle over 37's when aired up and i was hopin for 40's. Now im wishin i went straight to 46's |
4.2Trimble, i set the torsion bars back to their original setting, i was getting too much noise up front, think the out of alignment was the problem, so until i get the new tires i'll hold off on playing with the tbars.
how much play would a fabtech 6" give up front, i know the rear i can swap out blocks and remove an added leaf spring, but up front is the only adjustment the torsion bar? |
My problem is that I have 305/75/16 tires that have only about 20K miles on them. I love my wheels too. I was about to order a Fabtech 6" lift yesterday, but decided to wait a couple of days and do more searching for pictures. I guess the 305's won't look bad no matter what. I guess a lot depends on the truck too. I do not want a stuffed look like I have now, but don't want it to look weird. Wandell made a good point to me in a PM. He said since my wheels were 10", that should help.
