Lifting questions
Lifting questions
Having never owned a lifted truck I have a few questions maybe a few of you could answer for me.
I am looking at either the ProComp or Fabtech 6" lift for my 2wd.
How does a lifted truck ride as compared to stock?
How annoying does it get everyday getting in and out of a lifted truck?
If I did purchase one of the two kits mentioned above do I keep my 2.5" AS up front or ditch it?
Will the truck sit level after the lift is put on or will it have a rake like stock. Assuming I pull the 2.5"AS out.
Also I have recently purchased some 20x10 wheels. Will the 6" lift be enough to clear say a 33" tire?
Thanks in advance!

2. Ive never got tired of getting in and out of mine, but ill let you know when its lifted 15" and on 40's

3. The lift itself should eliminate the factory rake.
4. you can either add coilovers to the front suspension, or use the spacers. If you use the spacers than you will want to take the 2.5AS off.
5. 33's will be too small IMO go with 35's
6. If you opt for coilovers instead of the spacer than you can leave the 2.5" AS on and get a total of 8.5" and could run 36's or 37's
hope that helps, i know someone will come by and correct anything i stated wrong
I have a lifted 2WD and absolutely love it, the looks and compliments I get on it daily are priceless. I'd suggest the Fabtech over the Pro Comp.
1. The ride is a little stiffer over stock, but not bad at all.
2. Everyday I look at my truck it brings a smile to my face so it never gets annoying climbing in and out everyday. Although since I bought a motorcycle last October I drive the truck a lot less.
3. You can keep your leveling kit up front, but be prepared to add and AAL in the rear or you'll sag. That reminds me, make sure you get the 5" lift block for the rear also or you'll sag.
4. If you pull out the leveling kit and go with the 5" lift blocks for the rear you'll have no issues.
5. With a 6" lift you're going to want to throw some 35's on there.
6. Another thing you're going to want to consider is regearing. You're going to be losing some power once you add your lift and larger tires and your engine is going to be working harder to turn those larger tires. If you go with the 6" lift and 35's add a set of 4.56 gears and you'll regain all that lost power.

Procomp stage 1 will come with a spacer for the front strut assembly to acheive the 6" lift. It is frowned upon to stack the Procomp spacer and 2.5 leveling spacer together. The Fabtech stage 1 uses a new front strut which is longer to acheive the 6" lift. With this kit you can still use your 2.5" spacer. BUT... It will preload your front suspension and will affect the ride. Stiffer... Your rear lift will be a 2" block. Spring for the 5" block and this will level everything out. You can run 35's but keep in mide wheel width and backspacing.

Also, how bad will my MPG be affected?
I don't exactly try to save gas when driving my truck. So I normally get around 13-16mpg.
if you go with 35's and regear to 4.56's you should be pretty close to that if not a tad more.
let me put it this way, running the stock 3.55's on my 03 4WD 2 valve 5.4 turning 35's, i see 12mpg w/ a solid lead foot.
however, my truck is also running slightly rich due to running stock tuning w/ longtube headers.
regearing will help you quite a bit, as trimble has noted.
