Local Offroad Shop... real idiot

So today I stopped by these guys http://www.national4wd.com/index.php . They are a local offroad shop in Burlington Ontario where I live. I'm in the market for a AS 2.5" and 20 Moto Metals with some Open Country MT's 35". I know this combo can be done since some members have this setup on their trucks.

I told the guy at the store today what I was looking for and he was pretty rude and told me there is no way in hell that can work, he even said that 33's rub. I was polite and I told him that I was reading up on a ford truck forum and some members where running this setup on their 04+ 4x4 150's. He told me that hes lifted over 500 F-150's and he said no one knows what their talking about on those "stupid" forums.

Well I walked out the door and I told him, that I've forgotten more about ford pickups then he will ever know including his kids, let's just say he was not pleased.

Now I need to buy this stuff online, can anyone refer me to any sites. Thanks again..

theres a few places to take a look at try 4wheelpart.com

try autoanything.com

i know theres more places you will get those from other members i cant remeber them... lol

and if he knew anything you can fit 35's on stock wheels with 2.5" Leveling kit.

yeah with the stock wheels you can run the 35s but i believe if you want to use aftermarket wheels go with 33. thats just what i read on here with the newer trucks

Depends on the width and offset of the aftermarket wheel. I bought my leveleling kit off ebay for $70 w/free shipping.

Sorry to tell you he is right. You will not clear those tires and wheels with 2.5" lift. The 35" tire is with stock rims. I have 6" and had to trim .5 off front valance. You need to stick with 33" or go with 4" or 6". PawPaw has 35" but not M/T. DON'T DO IT. :lurk:

Yeah the specs on the wheel helps. Got a good friend with a 2.5" leveling kit, with 20" KMC dimes with toyo AT's. Rubs very slightly at full lock. But it is possible with aftermarket wheels also.

He told us aftermarket wheels

As stated previously, you CAN fit 35's on aftermarket 18's or 20's with the right width And backspacing. (Backspacing has to be Very close to factory backspacing.) I don't know all the specifics, Wandell can tell you all about it.

canadianedge 10-28-2008 09:37 PM

great.. thanks for the help guys.. I will check back to see what Wandell has to say.

GTRider245 10-28-2008 09:51 PM

Only way to do it is to either keep the factory wheels or find aftermarkets with identical specs.

wandell 10-28-2008 10:54 PM

Right. To fit 35x12.50's with only a leveling kit on the new 4x4's you have to use the oem wheels or one almost identical to the oem wheel's 7.5 inch width and 5.5 inches of backspacing. Paw Paw is running 35's with an 8 inch wide wheel with 5.5 inches of bs.

Auto Spring leveling kits can be ordered online. They even have a website which should have all the information that you need for ordering one.

You could buy wheels from a lot of sources. A local wheel & tire shop may even sweeten up the deal if you buy both from them . Just look around online, then take your notes to your local shop and see if they can match it for you. The advantage to the local shop is that they can mount and balance. Perhaps even the installation of the leveling kit.

If you have a late model truck, do not forget the TPMS sensors. Make sure that your local shop knows about them.

GTRider245 10-29-2008 07:19 AM

The AS site will just link you to the eBay auction. An if you have any mechanical ability at all you can install it yourself.

canadianedge 10-29-2008 09:11 AM

great.. thanks guys,

canadianedge 10-29-2008 09:32 AM

Well the following members are running the combo that I'm looking for. So I assume it works,

hill2107
IDNC76
Dirty Mofo
Grubrunner

I'm confused now because some say it wont work and then I see members with this setup on their trucks and they dont have any issues, :help:
