Oil drip from where CV bolts to axle

I have a oil drip from where the passenger CV bolts to the axle. I believe it is oil and not water as I wiped it off yesterday and even though it rained it is back on the passenger side.

Is this a common problem?
What is the fix? Dealer might be out of the question as I have a 2" A/S.

Let me know.

Thanks!

Well I just went and examined both sides, the drivers side had the same substance on it, but not a drip. I cant tell if this is water mixed with the grease on the housing or actually oil leaking from the housing. It smelled and felt like axle oil...

I just went and looked at my 07 and I have the same wet looking condition too. I don't have anything that is actually dripping but you can see where something got passed the seal. Both of my boots are dry and do not show any signs of having an oil leak. I'm running a 2" leveling kit on mine and when I had it in for bad seals on the upper control arms the tech didn't give it a second look. The entire repair covered with no questions.
At this point all your asking for is an inspection, can't see that being a big deal. If the leveling kit is a problem I'm sure they will let you know and then you find another dealer who wants your business when you buy your next truck.

Let me clarify is it not the actual CV boots, but where the whole CV assembly mounts to the axle.

LegIron can you take pics of your condition?

are you talking about between the two flanges? if you are it is grease from the cv axle most likely mixed with a little water. their is a large cap on that end of the cv axle that is removed when you disasemble the axle and some grease gets by sometimes. if its right at the end of the tube its the axle seal.

in this picture you can see the cap im talking about. if the axle seal is leaking you will see oil right at the end of the aluminum axle tube.

that cap is on the side with the wheel and tire, does the axle side have the same cap?

your misunderstanding. I understand that is not the end the wheel bolts to. But is that cap on both sides? on the half shaft side where is bolts to axle and axle housing side?

My drip is right where those 2 pieces in your pic bolt up.

Right Side CV Boot

Left Side CV Boot

As you can see the color is different but I have no drips and the boots are dry. Is this what you are seeing?
